Fabulous Baker Boys and Girls!

Asda on Nettleham Fields arranged for Warburtons to come in and teach us how to make bread.
We had a brilliant two days.
We learnt how imporatant it was to wash our hands before we started and we had to wear aprons and hair nets too!
The ladies from Warburtons told us all about the different ingredients we need to make dough.
We had to listen really carefully to the instructions so that we knew just what to do.

We all had our own piece of dough that we had to knead and stretch to get all of the air bubbles out.

Then we could make it in to any shape we wanted.  Some people made catterpillars, some made faces, some made flowers and some made animals.  They were all fabulous and all tasted really scrummy!  Thank you Warburtons and Asda!

Blue Watch Visit

Today was such an exciting day.  Blue Watch from Lincoln North Fire Station came to visit us.
They showed us the uniform they wore when they were fighting fires.  Did you know they have their trousers over their wellies ready to save time when they need to put them on in a hurry?

Then they put on their jacket.  It has a whistle in the pocket.  They use this if they need to attract the attention of the other firefighters quickly.

Finally, they put on a flash hood, a helmet and gloves.  If they are going in to a fire in a building they also wear their breathing apparatus.
The Fire Fighters told us how to keep safe if there was ever a fire in our house.  The most important thing that we were told was to check that we all had a smoke alarm at home as these are so important to help save lives.  They told us that if we don't have a smoke alarm at home our grown ups just have to ring the fire station and they will come and fit some smoke alarms for free.  There should be one at every level in our house.  Make sure you check your house NOW!

We then learnt how we should all get together as a family and work out a fire plan so that we would all know what to do if the smoke alarm in our house did go off.

Then we looked at the Fire Engine and all of the equipment that is on board.

We saw the special camera they use when they can not see.  It shows people by detecting their body heat.

We looked at the hoses.  There were lots of different size hoses.
We then saw the the cutting equipment.

We had a great day and learnt so much about keeping safe and how a fire engine works.
Don't forget to check you have smoke alarms fitted and a fire plan that everyone knows about.

Chick-tastic!

The chicks all hatched and we have had lots of fun watching them grow.  It was amazing how quickly they changed and grew.  They have started to grow wing feathers.
They are leaving school tomorrow to go to a new home where there is lots of space for them.

We all went to see them for one last time.

Look at the fantastic model that Lacey made.  She looked so carefully at the chicks to make sure she added lots of detail.

We also tried really hard to do some really detailed paintings using small brushes.

We think they are egg-celent.

Chick Watch - Day 3

What an egg-citing day we had today.  We were rushed off our feet with chick checks!
When we arrived at school we found two chicks had hatched overnight.  Then by fruit time two more had hatched, one while we watched!  It was so amazing to see the chick push its way out of the shell.  It looked like very hard work.

At the end of school on out last chick check there were 8 chicks hatched and 3 eggs left.

Chick Watch - Day 2

Foundation are very excited about the delivery we had yesterday.
We have got an incubator with 11 eggs in.
We have been going to visit them every hour to see what is happening, we call this 'Chick Watch'.
So far on our visits........nothing has happened!

We count them each time just to make sure they are all safe and you will be pleased to know that there have been 11 eggs all day.

World Book Day

Foundation turned into little book worms today to celebrate World Book Day.
Purple Class had lots of fun reading and getting creative with 'Eddy and his Teddy'.
Blue Class explored Little Red Riding Hood. They had lots of fun making a storymap.

Yellow Class decided to have fun with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  They acted the story out, inside and outside.

A little bit of sunshine.

A bit of sunshine made all the difference today in Foundation.  It was lovely and warm in our outdoor classroom.
Lots of learning was taking place in the sunshine.  We were experimenting with bubbles and whisks in the tuff spot.  This was helping us learn how to ask questions and investigate with all of our senses.

We were using our imagination with the wooden blocks and learning how to work together and share.
Look at this fab emergency helicopter.  The pilots legs dangled down just like they were really in the sky and there was lots of emergency equipment stored away in the hold!

We practised reading our key words in the sunshine.  What a lovely way to get even better at recognising words!

Learning in the sun was great fun today!
