A Great Start!

Foundation children have been very busy little bees settling into their new classes over the last few weeks. For some children this is only the third week that they have been at school and already they have been learning new letter sounds and have been practising how to write them correctly. We have been learning about how to use all of the different learning zones in the Foundation unit, and we are getting very good at remembering to share with our friends and to 'choose it, use it and put it away.' What a fantastic start!
Making lots of lovely things in the 'Plan, Make and Create' area.

Having fun in the 'Research and Read' area.

Playing with our friends in the 'Construct and Discover' area.

Remembering to 'choose it, use it and put it away.'

Practising our letters and sounds.

Outdoor fun

We are making the most of the lovely weather and we are doing lots
of learning outside.
We have been experimenting with sand and water.
Look at the fantastic fun we have been having.
The children used lots of different pipes and developed their motor skills by pouring water and trying to catch it at the other end.
In the sand we are thinking carefully about words we can use like full and empty.
The children are working very hard at team work and learning to share.

Welcome back

It has been lovely to see the old Foundation children come back after summer as really grown up Year One children.  They came in to school ready to learn and full of excitement, which was amazing to see.

We are looking forward to meeting our new Foundation children over the next two weeks.  We are sure they will have a great start to 'big school'.

There has been some exciting developments over the summer holidays.  Part of the Foundation Unit has been turned in to a Year One classroom as the bulge year groups of 90 children move up through the school (Foundation are back to a 60 intake this year).  This has also allowed us to add extra toilets and a small quiet room so the facilities are even better then they were!

We have also been working hard developing the outdoor area further.  We have converted part of it in to a resource village. The children can think about what they are learning, what they want to do and then plan which resources they will need to achieve their outcome.  They will then be able to go and collect everything they need.  We hope that this will help develop their critical thinking, planning, communicating and questioning skills.
